If I smile and don’t believe

If I smile and don’t believe,

So what?

This lie we live so I can hide

And at the death of each breath

I breathe again

Suddenly I am awake

But I haven’t slept all night

Like bluebells tinkering in the wind

But silently, without a sound

That’s me

We hid silently

Fearless and unreasonable

Somewhere I hear a wail

My hand reaches out

You are not there.

But the little one? It’s been a year but She’s still crying.

  1. in the last line, do you think the ‘little one’ refers to the poet’s conscience or someone else?
